One day at a time

I don't want people to think that I have been slacking so here goes...

On Friday I met: Megan, Reagan, Nick, Susan, Pete, James and Erin. Total = 7.

Monday: Had a bad day talked to three new people but didn't meet anyone.

Tuesday: Talked to two new people on the phone (Spencer - courtesy of Laurie- and Chris).

I met Leslie at Starbucks while picking up stuff (you know the good stuff with caffeine, J/K - I am not a big caffeine drinker but I did get a Vivanno and they are pretty tasty). I digress, Leslie was my "meet" of the day. She works at Starbucks and eventually wants to be a Marine Biologist. (I don't as can be seen by the picture to the right - I fear sharks!!) She joked that it might be a little tough given the fact we live in a desert - which made me laugh and got my thoughts off the scary shark. She was also the first person that I gave my fancy card (read as "not so fancy")that references the 10-A-Day blog. I hope she checks it out and leaves a comment. I would love to hear that she eventually reaches her goal of becoming a Marine Biologist - I would be jealous - sort of...

Beyond that I met: Jay Thompson, Irene Hammond, Paul Slaybaugh, and Jacie with Homeowner's Financial.

All were great and I look forward to meeting up with them in the future. Total for Tuesday =7.

Not too bad - I hope it begins to take off for me.

Meeting 10 People is Hard

I can't take it. I want to meet ten people a day, I mean I really do...I think. In all honesty it seems to be an easy task on the surface. Go up to ten people a day, start an awkward conversation, tell them what I do, ask what they do, continue awkward conversation, tell them I am trying to meet ten people a day and then, give them my business card and direct them to this blog.

Definitely not as easy as it looks. There are two main questions...
  1. Where do I meet these ten people?

  2. Will they talk to me?

I have found that people are supportive of this task but it doesn't lessen the difficulty. So I will begin anew tomorrow, knowing that I am 20 in the hole (Friday and Monday). Perhaps Tuesday and the rest of the week will prove to be different.

Here's to the challenge.

Too excited to wait!!!

Okay, so I was going to post in the morning about the activity for today, but my urge to tell everyone that I was successful (mildly not wildly) overcame the urge to just do it in the morning.

Here goes...I met 10 new people today. They don't know I met them, which is the next step, but I can honestly say that I met and saw 10 new faces today. I think our interactions run surface deep as there were no "ah ha" moments just moments of...

"Why is that guy still wanting to talk to me?" and "I have work to do so I wish he would get out of my face" expressions.

I am realizing that is what is fun. The fact that the hunt is in getting people to respond. Not to blow you off but to actually look you in the eye and be responsive. Sure it takes 8 rejections to get the 1 to actually talk and then 10 more rejections before your reach the next pinnacle of excitement with human interaction.

Never fear I can still say that I met them. I want to post their names and occupations but right now I don't want anybody's privacy to be invaded. So instead ---a couple places I visited and initials in no particular order...

  • Oracle Realty Investments - MS
  • Malinda's Pet Grooming/Boarding - David (nicest guy of the day award - actually talked to me about what he does, what he thinks about small banks and everything)
  • Keller Williams Platinum - TW
  • Wentworth Property - M.?.
  • Mountain Park Apartments - D.?.

I will continue to update you on the progress. The next step is to inform these lucky people of my little campaign and get there permission to post stories involving the interactions. We will see.

Who set this thing up?

Holy lime green template, Batman!

I know but green isn't a bad color. Maybe not my first choice but I thought it would liven things up to start. This is my third blogging attempt. My other two www.emurriettalending.blogspot.com and http://activerain.com/blogs/emurrietta are great for my business stuff, they coincide and I will double post them, all in an effort to reach realtors and anybody else out there who might find the information useful. (Though I am realizing that no matter how many hours I stay awake and how much research I do - I am always a little slow to the posting of my blogs)

This one is a creative outlet. I set this up almost 7 weeks ago and have done nothing since then. Why? Fear. Complete and utter fear. The daunting task that is before me - meeting ten people a day - keeps me from even meeting one new person a day let alone ten. But I am ready again and today will be the first day of the meetings and tomorrow morning I will post about who I met (names omitted for privacy reasons) and what they do.

Call me to the carpet or add your stories of the people you meet. There can't be a better way to network.
